Telegrams from the trail Monday, June 16 Letters from the Trail Last night, my sister Annie, friend Moniquia and I slept in our bedrolls under the stars for the very first time. The moon and stars were incredible. Now, we’re sitting here waiting for the first day of driving cattle to begin. After rising at 4:40 AM, packing my gear, a live interview for a local TV station, searching thru sagebrush for a missing glove, and eating a hearty breakfast, I’m ready to mount my horse Buddy and hit the trail. -Cowgirl Kate Jonesy, Branded my first board and came in third in the Cowboy Olympics. Riding Marshall on the drive. Living the dream. -Texas Jim Roses are red, so are our butts, Back in the Saddle…We all must be nuts!! As a first timer on the trail, I find this an exciting experience. From the fine food and libation to the branding and roping. To all you couch potatoes, come see for yourself; it’s an experience you will never forget. First day, Father’s day, we got held up by a bunch of Bandito’s and in Doyle, Ca we witnessed a big shootout down on Main Street. After that we retired to the local cantina and drank away the early afternoon. That evening we had some great western cuisine, singing and more drinks. So far it’s been a great. -Janice Colby, Chaz, Kenia, Corko-haven’t fallen off yet, but the butt is already sore. Miss you guys, but having a great time. -Lots of love Mari Zach and Alex, Hi guy’s mom’s having a great time. Horses are great! -Miss you Mom Dear City Dweller, There will be blood under the moonlight. Of course, not from a bloody bottle of a Bandito, but under my nails from not knowing how to unroll my bedroll and catching my fingers on the lock clips. -Urban Cowboy from Hazen After a dusty ride under the hot sun of the high desert, a cool drink, great companions, incredible food, a singing cowboy and sunset to a cool evening breeze. -Wow Paul It’s been an exciting and entertaining trail ride so far. Yesterday we were held up by Banditos and held for ransom. The Earps and Doc Holiday came to our rescue and liberated us from the Desperados. NO Causalities. -Buckaroo Gail Day Two- morning. Already covered in dust and you know what it feels good. Woke up to cattle, horses and campfire noises. Looking forward to our first full day ride and going to sleep under the moon and stars with only my bedroll surrounded by sage and wildflowers galore. -Janet Rappaport |
