Reno Rodeo Eighth Performance Results- Champions Abound at Reno Rodeo Final Performance

Since 2006, the Reno Rodeo Foundation has donated over $48,000 to Moms on the Run. RENO, Nev. --- Every event at the final performance of the 89th Reno Rodeo will feature world champions. In bareback riding, there are five gold buckles represented. Will Lowe, from Canyon, Texas has earned three and Bobby Mote who is tied for first place coming in, has two. Mote, from Culver, Ore., is tied with Jared Smith who recently competed at the College National Finals Rodeo. Smith was on the Ranger College men’s team and is now making his home at Ranger, Texas. In the steer wrestling, reigning world champion Jason Miller, from Lance Creek, Wyo., is at the top of the leader board. Matt Sherwood won the team roping title in 2006 in the heading category. The Arizona resident qualified here in first place roping with Randon Adams, from Logandale, Nev. Also, Oregonians, Mike and Brandon Beers will compete. Mike, the father is a former world champ. In saddle bronc riding, the field will be highlighted by Billy Etbauer from Edmond, Okla., and Chad Ferley, from Oelrichs, S.D. Etbauer has five titles to his credit and Ferley was the 2006 titlist. Monty Lewis, from Hereford, Texas, missed last year’s Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, but isn’t likely to do that again. He qualified here in third place. The 2004 world champion is hoping to add to his earnings here. In barrel racing, Mary Burger from Pauls Valley, Okla., is in the lead. She won the world title in 2006 riding the American Quarter Horse Association horse of the year, Rare Fred. The field is rounded out by two-time champion Sherry Cervi from Marana, Ariz. There are two champs qualified in bull riding and they are tied for fourth place. Wesley Silcox from Payson, Utah and B.J. Schumacher from Hillsboro, Wis., had scores of 87 points. Silcox is the reigning champ and Schumacher won the title in 2006. Rodeo action gets underway at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
