Please be realistic in your expectations about the horses. A safe horse is the first pre-requisite. The Frontier Remudas are healthy animals, and are ridden by many people each year, all of variable equestrian experience. These are not reining show horses. They are sturdy reliable mountain horses that can handle the heat and altitude of our locale. As with the cattle drives of the 1800's and on working ranches today, you've got to make the best of the horse you're assigned. Also, please don't ask for a "spirited" horse-we really don't know what this means!

If you would like to bring your own saddle, you are welcome to. However, understand that if it does not fit the horse properly, Dave will not allow you to use it. It must be a Western saddle. Remove the back cinch and your breast collar. Remember, no saddle bags or spurs.

Frontier Pack Train has a weight limit of 240 pounds for any rider. Sorry, but it's just too much strain on a horse if you are heavier than that!

On the first day, after lunch, and after you have gotten settled in, Dave and his crew will match you with your horse. Then your Drover will take you out on a trail ride, or "shake down" ride. This is a good time to tie your slicker on your saddle and get to know your horse.
