Making a Difference - One Sock at a Time The Reno Rodeo Denim Drive is a five week drive to collect new jeans, new socks and new underwear for abused and neglected infants, children and teens who have been rescued from unsafe homes and are now in protective custody and foster care throughout Northern Nevada. The Reno Rodeo Denim Drive starts mid-November and runs through mid-December. Donations are collected in 11 counties and what's collected in each county stays in each county. Collection containers are hosted at hundreds of local businesses and the Reno Rodeo Foundation also accepts cash donations. 100% of every cash donation is used to purchase additional clothing. In 2010, the Reno Rodeo Denim Drive expanded to include a "Donate-a-Dollar" Denim Pocket program. One dollar donations can be made at all Scolari's Food and Drug registers and 20 Nevada State Bank branches from Reno to Elko to Tonopah. For each dollar donation, both Scolari's Food and Drug and Nevada State Bank display paper pockets with the names of each donor. Thanks to the generosity of hundreds of individuals and businesses, the Reno Rodeo and the Reno Rodeo Foundation have provided over $100,000 in new jeans, new socks and new underwear to abused and neglected children in 11 Northern Nevada counties. Clothes are distributed by social workers with the Washoe County Department of Social Services and the State Department of Child and Family Services. The Reno Rodeo Foundation also hosts two "Foster Family Denim Distribution" events where foster children can "shop" for new clothes. These events are held in January and August.
